Short Story Awards and Prizes


Sharon was a family therapist before retiring in 2006, and–like her novel, Across a Narrow Strait–her short stories deal largely with the messy business of love, family, and relationships. Oh, and watch for a bird or two.

2020 Awards

THE NEIGHBOUR
In October The Neighbour, which was shortlisted for the Federation of BC Writers BC/Yukon Short Fiction Contest in May, took second place in the Muskoka Authors Association’s Melody Richardson Memorial Contest.

VARIOUS FUNCTIONS OF FIRE
Various Functions of Fire took first place for fiction in the Victoria Writers Society Annual Writing Contest. It is included in the December edition of Island Writer Magazine. Island Writer Magazine is available at many Victoria bookstores or by writing secretary@victoriawriters.ca.

A SYMPHONY of SPARROWS
A Symphony of Sparrows took second place in Askew’s Word on the Lake Writing Contest in April.
